I checked out the current denim trends for 2026 and tested real pieces to see what actually works in daily LA life. Here’s what I’m buying, skipping, and keeping forever.

I went deep on denim trends happening right now in 2026 so you don’t have to figure out what’s worth your time and money.I tried on a bunch of new and classic styles over the past few weeks. Here’s my honest breakdown based on what I actually wear around the Arts District, not just what looks good in photos.

Trends I'm Into Right Now

Bootcut Jeans

Bootcut is back in a big way and I get it. The slight flare at the bottom balances out tops nicely and makes legs look longer. I picked up a pair from Levi’s in medium wash. They feel modern but not trendy. Easy to wear with sneakers or loafers. This one feels fresh without trying too hard.

Slimmer Wide-Leg

Wide-leg jeans are still around but they got refined. No more super dramatic volume — now they’re streamlined and easier to move in. I tried a pair from Madewell. The fabric has good weight and they drape well. Great with a simple tank or tucked-in tee. Much more practical than last year’s versions.

Cigarette and Straight Leg

These ‘90s-inspired slim straight cuts are popping up everywhere. Think tailored but not skin-tight. I like them from Frame or AG. They look polished with a blazer or casual with a button-up. The clean line works for both work and weekends. I’m adding one dark wash pair to my rotation.

Earthy Tones and Khaki Denim

Instead of bright colors, we’re seeing soft khaki, beige, and light brown denim. I tried khaki wide-leg pants from Abercrombie. They feel like an easy neutral that mixes with everything. Less expected than classic blue but still versatile.

Trends I'm Skipping

Extreme Barrel or Overly Baggy

Some barrel jeans look cool on the runway but feel bulky in real life. They catch on things and add volume where I don’t want it. I tried one pair and returned it after two wears. Too much fabric for everyday movement.

Heavy Distressing and Rips

Big rips and super faded distressing feel played out. They look messy after a few washes and don’t age gracefully. I’m sticking to cleaner finishes that last longer.

Super Low-Rise That’s Too Extreme

A little lower rise is coming back, but some styles dip way too low. They slide down and need constant adjusting. I’ll take a subtle mid-to-low rise but nothing that feels like early 2000s.

What's Forever in My Closet

Classic straight-leg in medium or dark wash will always be my staple. Good quality denim that holds its shape, has some stretch, and doesn’t go weird after washing. Bootcut is joining that list now too. These are the pairs I reach for when I don’t want to think — they just work.

I also keep a pair of white or off-white jeans for summer. They brighten up any outfit and never go out of style if you pick the right cut.

Buy bootcut, slimmer wide-leg, and clean straight/cigarette styles right now. Skip extreme barrel shapes and heavy distressing. Invest in forever pieces like good medium-wash straight jeans that you’ll wear for years. Denim in 2026 feels more wearable and less extreme, which I’m happy about. Which denim trend are you trying this season? Let me know in the comments!
